Frequently asked questions.

What does body-based therapy work best for?

Anxiety and stress. Isolation and depression. Trauma release. Relationship struggles. Support through grief and loss. The stress and confusion associated with changing life circumstances. Family conflicts. Addiction and recovery support. Understanding your own behaviours and habits.

How is body-based therapy different from other therapies?

Most therapies are focused on talking and thinking only. A therapy that includes the body looks at the whole person, and their history. Where do we feel that we are sad? Angry? Scared? We feel in the body. Our mind state has a physiological home.

We work to process emotions physically and cognitively, re-wiring the nervous system for healthier reactions.

What does a session look like?

A session can include activities from a long list of tools including movement, verbal expression, music, breathing and relaxation techniques. Thoughts and behaviour patterns are explored through dialogue, reflection and feedback. 60 to 90 minutes is typical. The comfort of the client is paramount. We work together in trust, meeting the needs of the client as they happen. Each session addresses your current situation with a clear understanding of underlying causes. Clients are often asked to develop specific practices or awareness between scheduled sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on individual circumstances and is one of the many reasons we recommend the free “Discovery Call”. A plan will be made as part of that call. Many people commit to a number of sessions to work on a specific issue and feeling satisfied and capable move forward without requiring further work. Others need longer term support.

Can we do this on-line?

Yes! We are happy and confident to work with people all over the world.
